The inaugural African Media Awards will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 4 December 2025, celebrating excellence in journalism and audiovisual production across the continent.

The awards will recognise outstanding reporting, documentaries, interviews, social-media storytelling and other forms of media innovation. Supporting organisations include the African Union of Broadcasting and several major African foundations and partners.

The top three nominees in each of nine categories will be invited to the gala, with expenses covered by the organisers. Winners will receive the Golden Alkebulan trophy and a US$6,000 prize, while finalists will receive US$2,000.

Media companies and independent journalists are invited to submit their best work by 4 November 2025.
